As Labor Day weekend closed out summer—the season of family reunions, back-to-school routines, and last-minute escapes before the grind of the fiscal year—I’ve found myself reflecting on the highs and hiccups of the past few months. True to form, I’m keeping it simple with my Top 5 this week and breaking it up so I don’t ramble, but each one is rooted in real lessons I’ve had to face this year.

In case you missed it or need a recap: Lesson 1 is here.

Lesson Numma 2 showed me that presence is a practice—and it’s one worth protecting.

Go Outside and Touch Some Grass

This summer reminded me of the simple but powerful joy of being outside. Stepping away from my phone has opened the door to a world of real people, real conversations, and genuine engagement beyond likes and comments. You'd be surprised of what's REALLY going on that trendy feeds won't show you. You can’t discover the true power of networking or connection from the couch—and you definitely can’t wait on someone else to invite you. Do you need a reason to get dressed? No. Challenge yourself to dust that closet off and toss on something you know makes you feel good wearing it and go hit the town. You never know who you'll find that can be a messenger to answers your seeking or the fulfillment you didn't think you needed with engagement from just going outside.

And here’s the best part: being outside doesn’t have to cost a thing. Beyond my Sip Trips, I’ve visited parks, had picnics with snacks from home, and enjoyed free concerts all around the city. When you’re comfortable enjoying your own company, you become a magnet for new connections, because good energy attracts good people.

Up next, I’ll share how progress showed up in unexpected ways and why forward motion doesn’t always look the way you planned.
