Where Art Thou Fashion?

I don't know about chall, but lately over the past...eeeeh a few seasons or so; I've grown quite dare I say...bored n less inspired by fashion **gasp** I find myself lookin for inspo n needing to reach back into my own archives to boost the love I have for style becuz well...everyone is walkin round here like Stepford Wives n maybe my eyes are deceiving me but...it's a bunch of twins n triplets out here in these streets.

Quick History Lesson:

  • In the land of Shakespeare "Wherefore Art Thou" means why (the where can be confusing) so using it means ur asking for the purpose or reason...just as Juliet asked Romeo (becuz his name n family were the "opps"; she was asking why he gotta be a Montague)

  • If ur familiar with "thee, thy and thine" then u know of thou. They all mean "you" but do ur own research to learn the difference in the possessive adjective-ness of them. In the title I used it for dramatic effect, lol. Thou is you (think...thou shall not kill-translation: you shall not kill). The correct way I should've titled this is "Where Art THY (your) Fashion?"

Now I know...I know..fashion n style are 2 different art forms and it's rare to be the owner of both. It's just that...even on the smaller scale of vogue scale, there seems to be a change of tides as the seasons or I guess...generations change. I grew up with a cheat sheet aka my mom, who modeled n made a thrift piece look like it was off the runway. I have the fondest memories of being front row to these fashion shows by way of the TV every weekend n could get lost in the collections of DKNY, Versace, Perry Ellis, JP Gaultier to name a few. Back when celebrities weren't a thing becuz u had either movie stars and/or models, lookin back...I like how it was separated. The models didn't talk much outside the runway n the stride in their walk was their voice. I'd wrap a bedsheet around n strut around the house with short halls for practice. I've studied fashion not in the sense of learning materials but how they carry themselves n the daring imagination of putting pieces together.

Those days along with my mom's influence has shaped my fashion sense. Besides my mom, I also observed her friends and my family who gave me inspiration with a great mix of styles to also incorporate. I must also acknowledge the beauty of music and the visuals of videos to add to my imagination. Overall, these are the origins of fashion that I adore. Now the means to execute is where it gets tricky, lol. Thank goodness for thrifting and sales!!

A fashion showeth with nay fashions, how dreadful

While my personality screams Avante Garde, I live in the real world where my everyday life doesn't allow me to dress as such soooo I incorporate a more toned down flair for the modern world. In today's time, I don't seem to find the same excitement of daring fashions that we looked forward to every season. I don't know about chall but these infamous fashion weeks all seem to blend together and the exclusivity of attendees are yawnable. I guess my rant is also rooted in how easily accessible the industry has gotten as well but that's thanks to the digital age so it is what it is.

So hoooow can I find inspo in current times? I pull from the past and I also look to YALL. I know not everyone has the style but they do have their own spark they tend to incorporate (without even knowin it) when they get fancied. I can see when YALL dress at ur best there's a different glow n prance u walk with KNOWING u look good. No, it might not seem elaborate or over the top becuz ur comparing it to what u see on TV but street style influences what designers translate for us to see on TV. This is why I'm hard on yall about presentation becuz YES, it matters! I'm very much into lounge wear but zooshing it up with accessories so u can't even tell I rolled outta bed **pun intended**

My favorite fashion show that left an imprint in my heart is hands down the Ralph Lauren Spring 2025 in the Hamptons. Now I could be bias becuz it's pretty much the lewk I'm going for in my middle age. The clean n crisp fits where there was also pops of color is the direction I'm headed. I want classic looks!

The joys of fashion is you can let it take u whereever ur heart desires and yes...wear what u want. Although this is a general statement, folks tend to take it out of context in a manner to enable foolishness. Those who know-just know!! I am loving older woman 55+ who disrupt the image of Grandma's we grew up with and show us fashion sense in the current. Oh I've unlocked a whole new bag on YT, lol. I just see we are either stuck in a time where we want what we wore in our 20's to fit into who we are in our 40's n that's just not the case. What we need to find is that balance to showcase our style that can be as current and still reflect our growth. Give me Fashion...Give me Evolution!!!
